The Bubble Nebula (NGC 7635, also cataloged as Sharpless 162 and Caldwell 11) is an emission nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia. The bubble structure is blown by the stellar wind of a massive, hot, luminous central star—BD+60°2522—which ionizes the surrounding giant molecular cloud and sculpts the glowing shell of gas.

Target Details & Notes

Captured over several nights in early August from my backyard in Eugene, Oregon using the Apertura Carbonstar 150 reflector.

Processed using my standard HOO processing workflow in PixInsight. 70 subframes each of Hydrogen-alpha and Oxygen-III narrowband data were stacked and combined to reveal the delicate expansion sphere and outer gas filaments, while 30 short 30-second RGB exposures were taken strictly for natural star colors and blended in using StarXTerminator and PixelMath.
